military goods, supplies and fuel--- conversions ?

Post by tkobo »

Its rare that i run out of oil.

But it happens.Especially when i take over a huge region like China or India while playing a small region like Japan.

One miscalulation and its easy to find oneself in a large oil/fuel deficit.

Now heres what i did today, that i found rather interesting.

I used supply vehicles to convert supplies back into fuel/oil.

I had just issued orders for 20+ hex advance (into Pakistan) by circa 100+ units.Than India fell to me creating a huge oil shortage, which means a huge fuel shortage.

Now the supply system automatically provides fuel and supplies, BUT only some units allow the supplies to become fuel.

So by simply setting up roving supply vehicles i was able to convert some of my huge stock pile of supplies back into fuel, and finish the 20+ hex advance for all 100+ units despite having a 15million barrel of oil deficit .

Now doesnt this mean, that i was able to turn non-fuel products into fuel ?

Military goods consist of Ore, Petrol,Industrial Goods and Electricity.
Military goods = supplies.
Supplies convert to fuel as needed.

BUT when military goods in the form of supplies are used as fuel it seems to be a one per one conversion.Which means im somehow managing to turn ammo, spare parts, etc... into usable fuel :P

Which means, if you can buy military goods(or have a huge stock pile),you dont need oil for your armies :P

Its something i never thought of til i had to solve the issue i ran into today.

This is wrong. Supplies are both military goods and petroleum.

No, that is correct. I might not remember all the numbers but goes something like this. When you build 1t of Military Goods it costs some IG, Electricity and Petroleum. Units carrying "supplies" have taken some of those "uncombined materials" as a total 1 ton weight. When you use those supplies as Petroleum, the IG and Electricity are "lost" but this does allow "supplies" carried to be of just one type. It's an abstraction, but it works.

So that was essentially some very expensive fuel.

Oil used by the military is extracted from Military goods?? There is mentioned in commodities consumption that both oil and military goods are used by the military.

They are. Fuel moves the unit. Military goods gives them bullets or is used to build more units/facilities.

So military goods are used as fuel when there is shortage of fuel?

What exactly are military goods? bullets? weapon parts? soldier clothes? soldier food? all together?
