Obviously the moderators cannot be active 24/7, so there is an extent to which this sort of BS could be an ongoing problem. While it would normally go against my grain to suggest this sort of thing, perhaps the moderators could attempt to rig things such that new members joining the forum were limited in the number of posts they could make per day. That would reduce the amount of noise a single spambot could make, while at the same time permitting people who behaved themselves to be given full access/posting privileges after a reasonable waiting period.

Please don't reply to the spammers, I can dump all their posts in one command but have to remove your replies to them one by one...

Re: JElopsdowdew - Spam bot runs amok
You do realize there are some simple ways to severely cut down spam, that prevents bots from even registering
Captua is the most common (but is also defeated quite easily thesedays)
Other method is to insert a question on the register form that must be answered (usually a maths question)
My personal favourite is to have a bogus field on the registration form, and abit of renaming on the field names with a little bit of programming on the form processor, most automated bots will fill in the bogus field, which will cause the registration attempt to be ignored
This bogus field would be hidden from normal users via the CSS file
While there is no 100% effective method, any one of these should severely cut down bot spam

Re: JElopsdowdew - Spam bot runs amok
I was reading a post about this just earlier today.
A forum admin said, he created a guest forum, that new posters were allowed to post in, and set a day and post qaulification that allowed new posters to earn access to the basic forums.
He said new posters had to qaulify to post in the basic forums by posting 6 posts over a weeks time, that could each earn aproval. The posts in the new poster guest forum, each had a rating that could be given to them.
Six posts that earned an approved rating ,in a weeks time, would allow the new poster to post in the basic forums.Becoming a full member of the forum.
One post rated unapproved, banned the poster, removing all its posts.
Ill see if i can find the post, as i might not be explaining this correctly.

Because this is a forum for a game, we can't make access too restrictive, we want to encourage joining.
We do already use Captua, but you can see how effective it is...
And we could implement other systems, but we're too busy developing games to work on the forum much

Out of the suggestions Ive posted, I would imagine the 2nd one would be the fastest to setup, but I cant testify to its effectiveness since I only personally use the 3rd method

Re: JElopsdowdew - Spam bot runs amok
Just bumping this thread to remind everyone PLEASE do not reply in spam threads. I can delete every message from one spam bot with a single click but if you guys reply I have to individually remove your replies.I hate theese spamers, BG should really invest in some anti-bot registering measures...
And we are fully up to date on our anti spam measures, we're one of the best boards out there IMO as spam never lasts more than 18hours before being removed. And every time they make new anti spam someone makes and anti-anti spam program...
