Okay maybe i am just dumb but - Airborne transport/assault q

Post by coreymas »

I have a bunch of Airborne troops that i would like to air transport .

I tried the following

1. Make a C-5 air unit available at an airbase
1. Left click to select an airborne unit that is on the airbase where the C-5 is located.
2. Right click on an airstrip (not airbase)
3. Issue Air transport command

Doesnt work

Is it because it is an airstrip and not an airbase?

I can get my helos to do this type of command... why not the

But i have tried that as well..... all that happens is that there is a bit of a flash and the ground unit is still separate from the C-5.....

Is there something else i am missing.... rules of engagement?

I want to get on with my airborne invasion of Haiti/Dominican republic, Jamaica (part of Mexico) in the WW3 scenario as the US.

Ensure all transport units have Available for Minister Orders turn on. If he cannout order the unit it will not do anything.

To manually load.

Lets use the same Airborne troops.

Have troops and aircraft at airfield. Select troops, on the Advanced Orders menu, choose Load Into, then left click on the airfield. Any units able to transport them will be shown, just select the one you want to use. When using the manual method you will need to repeat to load every transport at the airfield if more than one.

Another thing to keep in mind is Unit weight. The data on the Technical Readout is for the base unit. That does not include any supplies, equipment, missiles etc it has equiped/loaded. Example:
Special Forces Tech readout lists weight as 108t

A deployed SF unit in the field with combat gear weighs 135t. You can see their combat weight by selecting them and hovering your mouse over the name of the unit in the Unit Command window.

The reason I include this info is 2 fold, some may not be aware, and its very useful when deciding how many transports you need to load x amount of units.

mexico never say what was coming when i attacked, 150 b-52 squadrons each with 17 bombers in them, plus huge numbers of troops. I made 3 big attacks, didnt even take half of their country and they gave up. Total time of the invasion was 2 months and I spent msot of the first month moving troops from Canada into position along mexico's border, its quite easy to do...SA is another challenge as they have some AA and interceptors and have damaged a few squadrons heavily...

nope, just comparing attacks. Yes i use airborne a lot, and i use air transport option, although they migth end up all arriving at different times, you can arilift whole armies in after them, for example, i lift about 200 battalions of bradley's into africa by aircraft, and it only took me 10 mins in real life (bout a week ingame). And at the same time mounted an airbrone assault on spain, very useful command it is...
