Air droppable units & Future Units

Post by Draken »

I looked into the excel files and found the M119 but it is no air droppable.

The M119A1 is used by the 82nd Airborne Div.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... d/m119.htm

Can we have this one included, please?

Thanks!

Cool! I'd missed that fact. I have it updated this afternoon. Any other that should be air droppable? I guess the new XM777 the US is working on will probably be air dropable also...?

Glad to help!

I just finished to read the forum (most of it at least) and started going through the Excel files... I'm still "digesting" all the info but I can tell you that I expecting this game with anxiety!!!

I'm a fan of airborne operations and that's why I notice this. Also I notice that there is no AT (except for one, available to east) and no AA units air droppables... So does this means that airborne infantry won't have AA & AT support units or that capabilities will be compensated in the (close) combat value?

Regarding the XM777, I really dont know now but I'll do some research about it and other air droppable units and I'll be back to you on this.

If you'd like to look for any AA/AT uints that are air droppable as well, that would be great! I'll need to do more checking for that at some point.

Thanks

LOSAT

Post by Draken »

I found the LOSAT AT (Unit Id 412) is air-droppable. Actually the first operational unit using them will be the 5-11th Parachute Infantry.

Regarding the XM777, I haven't been able to find any reference about it being air-droppable.

Do you want to continue posting this "fixes" in this thread or do you preffer a thread per unit? (I vote for the first option!)

Also, what do think about including an air-droppable supply truck?

I'm still looking at the versions of the HMMWV but already have a sort of air droppable supply truck. We added a F.A.R.P. crew (Forward Area Resupply Point) that is a leg supply unit that is air droppable.

The FARP is a truck unit.

And BM-21s are NOT air droppable. They can be carried by aircraft, but not dropped by parachute. The Russians and Chinese have developed trailer mounted rocket launchers to give them that capability.

Two more units:

(ID# 559) Nona-S (2S9) 120mm Motorized Howitzer / Mortar (also referred to as SO-120)
http://www.thatcherthunders.org/ttruscom2.htm

(ID# 411) 125mm 2S25 SPRUT-SD Self-propelled Anti-Tank Gun
http://www.thatcherthunders.org/ttruscom2.htm

Regarding the BM-21 (Grad-V?) the only reference I have found about been air-droppable is the link I posted above (a index for a paid subscription... Don't know how reliable it is). But I neither have found a reference to it not been air-droppable... If you say it is not, well I have no problem with that but it would be nice if you could post a link to your source.

Balthagor said that the FARP is "a leg supply unit..." and you say it is a truck unit.... I'm confused! :-?

Well, I signing off ... Have to dodge Charley... Hurricane Charley that's it

The FARP is a leg unit. Leg infantry animation, 5km/h move speed.

yup. I don't think full supply trucks at a battalion size could be air dropped. Although the FARP crew is leg movement type, it is assumed to have a number of HEMMT trucks and some HMMWVs.

Ok. Thanks :)

I moved to Florida and got a new computer, so I don't have the beta installed anymore. :(

I don't have a reference to anything that specifically says that BM-21/-21Vs are not airdroppable, but I bet that the Milparade site is referring to a towed version.

This is what FAS.org says:
# BM-21V: 12-round launcher (V standing for vozdushnodesantii - Airborne -- NATO designator M1975) system was developed for use by Airborne composite artillery battalions. The BM-21V fires the same rocket as the BM-21 and BM-21-1.
It makes no mention of a truck chassis, whereas every other variant does.

Edit: Ah.. here we go. I never knew this:
BM-21V 122-mm Airborne Multiple Rocket Launcher

For use in the composite artillery battalion allocated to each former Soviet Airborne Assault Brigade and Airborne Division the 12-round BM-21V (V standing for vozdushnodesantii, or airborne) system was developed. This has the NATO designator M1975 and has two tiers of six tubes mounted on the lower chassis of the reduced weight airborne forces GAZ-66B (4 x 4) 2000 kg truck. This has a collapsible canvas cab, removable doors and windscreen, telescopic steering wheel and tie down points for aiding parachute dropping and air landing. The launcher is traversed forward towards the cab for traveling and for firing uses two stabilizing jacks at the rear of the vehicle. The BM-21V fires the same 122-mm fin-stabilized rocket as the BM-21 and BM-21-1. The rockets can deliver Frag-HE, chemical, or incendiary warheads to a range of 20,380 meters, or the newer HE and cargo rockets out to 30,000 meters. This airborne MRL can fire all 12 rockets in 6 seconds or fire each singly. It can reload in 5 minutes. The B version of the GAZ-66 has reduced weight and mass due to a canvas-covered cab and a windshield that can be folded down to simplify air-landing or air-dropping. The BM-21V has a maximum highway speed of 87 kilometers per hour.

Good call. :)
