Limit Belli rating?

Post by Justifier »

Hey guys,

Is there a limit belli rating for AI to start a war. I mean, from which point I should expect an assault from AI. 70% , 75% ? I know there is not a certain number for immediate war but I want to learn the dangerous ratings.

thanks!

You have the right idea. 70%-80% is when it starts becoming a real danger. There is very much no hard and fast rule though. I have had regions with much lower belli declare on me, and I have seen 100% belli hold back for years before declaring. It keeps you on your toes, and makes planning wars in well ordered sequence very hard to do. Which, IMHO, is a good thing!

Hmm...So %60+ is dangerous I guess. I should keep my eye on those bars.

When I am faced with multiple regions, and do not wish to fight them all at the same time, I also check their cash on hand while I am checking belli levels. A region which has five billion in it's treasury will be much more impressed by a five billion gift than one that has twenty...or a hundred billion. Also, I never just give an outright gift. I trade techs or unit designs, and then add the money gift on top of (usually) giving them the advantage in the actual trade. Example: I want the LAV-III design, I trade them something that costs more (but is less useful, or will break their bank building the units, a large transport plane or ship works well), add a tech design they can not make use of involving building new factories or a medical tech, and then add on a chunk of cash. The result is you get a tech, and they get overpaid and happy, but no real advantage when war does come.

Anyway, back to my point. If geography is fairly equal, it is best to "calm down" the poorer regions on your border. Unless you are filthy rich, trying to calm them all down is too expensive, and the poorer region will lower it's belli more in response to bribes. If you have a problem with rising belli levels you are going to end up fighting. The best you can do is limit it to one front at a time.

Well said Lightbringer and I will add that I will take an initial look at the CB against me at the beginning of the game and then give periodic looks at it in increments of 3-6 months to see the trends of who is frustrated with my actions. After 6-12 months of checking the CB and making comparisons to their initial starting point then you will quickly see who is intending DoW against you.

I have done this in practically all of my games and by the end of the first year I can practically give you the percentages of the increased CB against me, start taking actions to either raise/lower the CB individually for the countries whom I intend to ally, DoW, or desire peace with.

I know this is going overboard and probably way too much work; however, in all of my games I will create a chart (spreadsheet) in which I list each country and their (in this order): CB, BC Naval, BC Air (Missile Cap), BC Ground, Total Army Strength, Treasury, Debt, GDP/c, Tech Level, MilApp, and DomApp.

Once I have all of the figures input I am ready to begin the game and at the intervals of Three months I will pause the game and re-evaluate each field. I will be able to quickly see and begin tracking those AI countries who are most likely DoW against me. At first I will try to check the figures once a game month up to six months - this will quickly give me the trends. From there I will check it every two or three months up to one year; and every four to six months beyond that - depending on the situation as sometimes war has already begun by this point.

My point. . .it is possible to track the trends of the AI countries and once you get a habit of checking the vitals you will quickly begin to determine who is going to do what with some accuracy.

As for your question, I conclude that any AI country with a CB greater than 60% gives me reason to monitor them more closely. Not to mention taking steps to avert a war if I am not ready to fight a war.

Good luck.

Tony
