Factory Icons!

Post by Ashbery76 »

I'm not a fan of the cartoony look of the icons.Looking at the old screenshots, i prefer the more basic looking and clearer icons that suite the map better imo,are they still available to use?

The interface looks absolutely nothing like that...

Wait, you mean you want your interface to look like that? :P

Going from "cartoon" to 8 bit nintendo. :P

We have not made the old graphics available, those where always intended as "placeholders" until we got something nicer. You can however do what Deanco has done and adjust the Unitbits sheets in the \Graphics\Units folder. Just be sure to keep the same # of frames, even if they are identical.

I meant interface to include the icons, and basically all graphical representations on the map.

Btw, i like that hex map better too. Any chance of a mod doing that?
And I agree with the first poster. The initial screens looked a bit cleaner.

Maybe BG can make them available later :) (for those of us who want 8-bit Nintendo). Rather it looks more like a traditional wargame.

Hmmm... :)

You *do* know you can turn hexes on, right?

As for the generic icons instead of buildings thing, it's doable. It would be useful to know the height and width of the icons in pixels. Most of those icons are 'cutouts', they are no bigger than they have to be, and that makes finding the upper right corner where the game calculates them to be a little difficult. A lot of trial, and a lot of error.

But they do not look like those hexes. I think the one in the screenshot looks better than the one in the demo.

BG could release it as a "classic" style mod :).

Even more ambitious would be the addition of counters instead of unit icons. NATO style counters are much easier to read than sprites.

To use NATO counters, all that is required is to open each of the unit pictures and replace it with the NATO symbol you want.

"all that is required...'

He forgot to mention there are over 300 unit pictures, each with multiple frames. That's "all". :)
