Map Errata (Toponymic or Position)

Post by Inego »

I suggest to post here all toponymic errata found in the game.
Let's start with Grono-Altaisk in Western Siberia which really should be Gorno-Altaisk.

[Edit by Moderator: Thread stickied, all map errata should be listed in this thread]

Are you really from Western Siberia, or is that just another way of saying New Jersey?

Don't think I've ever seen a poster from Siberia. Irkutsk speaks!

I've made a note. We may get to this in a future update. Thanks for noticing. And, welcome to the forum.

BTW a slight variation of your name/username is in a favorite movie of mine. Princess Bride.

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die".

Of course I am not from Western Siberia. As it is well known, Siberia is a cold desert inhabited mostly by bears and GULAG guards descendants. And even if I were from there, how could I post to this forum without Internet! There are only two computers in Siberia, both in the FSB office.
На самом деле, я из Новосибирска.
Что, не верите? Я, пожалуй, единственный человек из России, который купил вашу игру. :)

Wow....it has been a long time. My guesstimate:
I am really from Novosibirsk. Do you believe? I am maybe the only person in Russia which had purchased your game.
And, Novosibirsk is pretty much Western Siberia -- depending on how you draw the lines on a map - although it is a huge city (with a very interesting research center to the south of it). 8)

GREECE:
Kalámata should read Kalamáta

AUSTRIA:
Kapfenburg should read Kapfenberg
Lichtenstein should read Liechtenstein, if such a settlement existed in real life (there is no city or town called Liechtenstein in the country of Liechtenstein. Vaduz would be a better name for that settlement).

GERMANY:
Kempton should read Kempten
Hamlen should read Hameln
Starlsund should read Stralsund

ITALY:
Frienze should read Firenze

MALTA:
Malta should perhaps read Valetta

THE NETHERLANDS:
Dan Haag should read Den Haag

Thanks for posting these. I'm sure Chris will be taking a look at them at some point soon and compare them to our sources. Could be that our sources are incorrect or could be input errors.

Probably input errors, that's what happens when I have over 8000 cities to input :P

Some spelling errors in Hungary, in the patched version:
Tatabáyna should be Tatabánya
Gödöllo should be Gödöllö
Ódz should be Ózd
Kiskunfékegyháza should be Kiskunfélegyháza (actually, you could leave it, as it's kind of funny in Hungarian)
Hajdúszovát should be Hajdúszoboszló (Hajdúszovát exists as well, but it's a tiny village compared to Hajdúszoboszló).

I don't envy you guys having to input all these cities... but adds a graet deal to the atmosphere!

Actually much of this data is stored in raw text in the .OOF file, so it's a simple find/replace. Now getting them on the map in the first place...

Edrine should be Edirne.
Tarbzon shoul be Trabzon for instance.

No big deal, but maybe you'd like to correct.

Being an Ohio native, I saw a couple of city names that need corrected.

Humber Heights = Huber Heights.

Xeria = Xenia.

All the above fixed, although Kalamáta was wrong in Encarta, so not my fault ;)

Another small error.

UK: "Hudderfield" should read "Huddersfield"
