Ships won't go into port?

Post by crozelle »

For some reason, when naval units are told to repair, reserve, or move to one of my sea piers, they will not go into port. Instead, they wait in the water hexes immediately adjacent with their orders. This means that I cannot repair any of my units, and I believe this is causing problems with my sea transport command (the unit will move to the port, but cannot board since the transport is still a hex away). Newly fabricated naval units will sometimes reserve themselves in a port, so I am pretty sure they operate to some extent, but I still cannot get the deployed units to operate (It's rather annoying to air-drop small units into enemy territory, then wait for land fabrication facilities to be built, then to build larger units.)

Any ideas?

Hope you do not have a game issue!!!

lets go over commands with the hope it is something easy...

~Your ship is at sea....you LEFT hand click on your ship and a window pops up with your ship in it....LEFT hand click on the new window, at this point if you move your mouse around you will see a blue line between your mouse pointer and your ship....from here you RIGHT hand click on a port or area you want your ship to go to OR in the unit orders box you can LEFT hand click on a order like "reserve" and then left hand click on the green arrow to send your ship to the nearest port.

~Something to note....If your ship needs fuel, there are no commands that will work. you will need to send an AO type transport to where ever your ship is to refuel it. If you do this, the faster ship needs to ESCORT the slower one once they are in the same space to keep it fueled.

~sending transports out unescorted is what the AI does, this makes it easy to wipe them out...do not act like the AI, protect your weak ships

~early game Capital ships do not attack subs, you need to escort your bigger ships with small sub killers....again, your slowest ship needs all other ships to escort it, that way they stay together

~Pay attention to your Ammo on your ships, once the Ammo runs out you will loss to a much weaker ship that still has ammo

~if you have to travel a long ways with your ships and they run out of fuel, use your aircraft carriers as a mid ocean resupply base. You need to protect your carrier using a combined arms concept (surface/sub and air protection) On your carrier(ACC) put planes that have the best radar to detect any enemy (patrol them from your ACC. you can create fast response stacks of ships to attack with (I stack 5 to 7 ships together) this allows you to attack ships your planes discover and not weaken your mid ocean resupply base.

Thanks! I have been playing this for a little while, so I have the commands down (but I double checked your short tutorial, just in case I was missing something). I have been doing it correctly, and the ships are definitely not out of supply. I can get them to move anywhere I want except the ports.

Is this one particular sea port or all of them?

Try moving a ship 2 hexes away from a port and them manually move it to the "exit" of the port as viewed on your map, then issue reserve or repair command.

This is all ports (that I have tried, I've probably got around 50 of them) for all types of ships. I will try your recommendation, but I'm pretty sure that I have either done that already while trying to troubleshoot it, or that it will not be any different than several hexes away. I will try it again, though!

Could you upload a save game somewhere and link to it? 2020 is a old game now and I can recall no instance of this being an issue on such a grand scale. There were some issues of individual ports on river hexes having problems but nothing on such a large scale.

In the back of my mind is a small voice suggesting it may a ROE issue, either the Global or Individual, but I would be happy to take a look. I think you have them set to minister control as you typed you use them for sea transport, but not manually.

Zip file seems to be too large to upload? I can send it via email.
