Ruges 4.36 mod AAR The Bear, the Dragon, and the Eagle

Post by Tnarg »

Jan 1st, 2020

With developement of its natural resources much more modernized, Russia has regained a dominating position within Europe. Efforts to modernize its military have renewed the intimidation faced by its former satelites during the height of the Cold War. Additionally the ongoing military alliance with China seems geared to project that intimidation and power well beyond Europe and Asia.....

Prolougue:

Humanity has been compared...to a sleeper who handles matches in his sleep and wakes to find himself in flames.
-H.G. Wells "The World Set Free" 1914

Prior to 2020 hummanity could predict the inevitable, the question was when? Lines in the sand that have not been drawn since the Cold War began with the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation Pact between Russia and China. This was viewed by western powers as a significant military agreement and new emerging threat. China and Russia began to invest billions on infrastructure in Ghana, Ethiopia, Libya, Nigeria, Iran, Syria, Uganda, Mexico, Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Argentinia, and Venezuela bolstering trade relations and seeking future partners that oppose the western questionable economic domination. Russian and Chinese relations grow stronger with the construction of a new pipeline to deliver Siberian Petroleum to China and joint military exercises and training. "The Bear and the Dragon have awakened from their long slumber" were the headlines.

In 2017 the Ukraine government voted against the renewal of the lease of a Russian naval base in Sebatopol which forced the Black Sea Fleet to relocate. Russia responds by halting natural gas shipments through the Ukraine. Seeking favor under the umbrella of a new global strength Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan bolster relations with the Russia. Relations between Russia and several South American and Central American countries are further strengthened with massive arms deals and joint military training.

The North Korean leader is assinated in 2018 and a new leader favored by both Russia and China is appointed. Also in 2018 tensions between Venezuala and Brazil are heightened by an mysterious sinking of a new Brazilian nuclear submarine. Pakistan and Indian relations are at an all time low with both countries on full alert. China and India relations escalate after a Chinese fighter is mistakingly shot down by India thinking it was from Pakistan. Turkey protests Iran's continued research into nuclear weapons and the latest Russian arms deal with the Iranians.

The Ukraine is accepted as the newest NATO member in 2019. With this news Russia withdraws from the NATO-Russia Joint Council. The Russians claim that NATO is trying encircle Russia with puppet governments. Seeking a new alliance against the west Russia and China propose a new alliance to their trade partners. Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Argentinia, Venezuala, Serbia, Iran, Syria, Ethiopia, Libya, Kazakhstan, North Korea, Uzbekistan, China, and Russia all sign a full military alliance called the "Eastern Alliance".

Chapter I The Tipping Point

The first two laws of thermodynamics can be summarized thusly: the natural course of the universe is to go from a state of order to a state of disorder. Those laws also describe systems built by man.

Brazil declares war on Argentinia and Venezuela. As co-author of the "Eastern Alliance" Russia honors its mutual defence of Argentina and Venezuela and declares war on Brazil. Almost a divisions worth of Cold War era Russian equipment is sent immediatly to both countries. The alert status of Russia went from DEFCON 5 to DEFCON 3. All active and reserve units begin mobilizing and assuming defensive positions in their respective military districts.

January 23rd, 2020
Turkey takes action against Iran. The world held its breath to see if Russia would honnor is mutual defence agreement with Iran and declare war on second country within a day. Within 4 hours of Turkey's attack on Iran, Russia declared war on Turkey and promised Iran a huge force of older equipment until Russia could fully mobilize its forces and send an expiditionary unit to aid Iran.

In the pacific theater the Russian Pacific Fleet is in the middle mobilzing and organizing near Vladivostok when the South Koreans declare war on North Korea. The gamble by the South Koreans was based on North Koreans two major allies involved in their own wars on the other side of the world. And their trump; the Russian's Pacific Fleet in the middle of mobilizing near Vladivostok with a large flotilla of South Korean warships waiting to pounce on the disorganized fleet transports, the Russians would not dare to honor its mutual defence of North Korea.

Image

Not wanting to falter on the alliance, the Russian president made the call and honored its agreement with North Korea. The Pacific Fleet as disorganized as it was quickly manuevered and was able to throw force on the South Korean flotilla. Within an hour 10 South Korean ships lay at the bottom just off Vladivostok.

Eastern Front - North Korea

Image

After several days of fighting the South Koreans have made a major push into North Korea in what looks like an encirclement maneuver of the capitol P'yongyang. The west sees the declarations of war by Russia as a replay of the "Phoney War" when the British and French declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland. No real maneuvers into German territory took place until the US enters the war. News headlines decried "the Great Bear and its roar, but where are its claws?"

Russia sends North Korea a divisions worth of old equipement to help buy time while the 5th, 29th, 35th, and 36th Army assemble near Vladivostok. The 98th Guards Airborne Division and 31st Guards Airborne Brigade is mobilizing near Khabarovsk and is nearing 90% strength. Meanwhile FROG mobile launchers near the North Korean border launch SCUDs at large South Korean formations. Commanders of the Eastern Military District are wargaming several operation plans. The North Koreans will continue to hold out and grind down the South Korean Forces. Upon full encirclement of P'yongyang, Russia will launch an offensive.

With the US now at war with Russia over Cuba, the rest of the world quickly fell apart at the seems. Germany, Poland, and the UK declared war on Serbia adding to the growing Russian war list. With Poland in the frey DECON 1 is established. The 11th Guards Army in the Kaliningrad Military District launches a spoiling attack on a forming Polish organization near Olsztyn Poland. The spoiling attack quickly turned into a disaster as Polish forces from west of the Pasteka River and South of the Lyna River quickly countered the attack and cut off 2 Divisional Tank Brigades. 7 T-72 tank battalions and 2 BMP IFV battalions along with some other support elements were cut off under the overwhelming wave of Polish forces. The remainging 11th Guards Army retreated to pre-war positions to establish a defensive entrenchment around Kaliningrad. Efforts to create a plan and to create a land link to the Kaliningrad Military District with the rest of mother Russia is under way. The weight of the Western Military District's 6th Guards Army and 20th Guards Army is stopped only by Latvia, Lithuania, and the Ukraine.

Serbia quickly fell to the Germans overwhelming attack.

An intelligence agent sent to recon forces near Istanbul Turkey is captured and efforts to ramp up the GRU is set into motion.

Also on January 30th the UK declares war on Belarus for reasons that are not yet clear. Diplomatic efforts to bring Belarus into the "Eastern Alliance" are now underway.

Military Operations Room
Chekhov, Moscow Oblast - Wartime Command Post for the General Staff

Operation Plans for the breakthrough to Kaliningrad. "Operation Iron Wake"

On January 30, 2020 war between the Polish and Russia was declared. After a failed spoiling attack on Polish Forces the 11th Guards Army retreated to defensive positions around Kaliningrad. Polish military forces have begun to poor in around the Kaliningrad. The German campaign on Serbia ended in success and it is believed that German forces may soon aid Poland.

The Defence Ministry called for an immediate link up with the Western Military District and the Kaliningrad Military District before the 11th Guards Army is overwhelmed. The Baltic Fleet is capable of transporting troops of the Western Military District; however, it is feared that soon many more countries in the area will be involved in the war making naval transport a risky proposition. We must quickly punch through either Latvia and Lithuania, Belarus, or the Ukraine and establish an overland supply route to the Kaliningrad area if the war is to be processed on Polish and German soil.

Three separate operations were proposed each with their pros and cons:

Latvia and Lithuania
Image
Latvia has no allies and is an easy target; however, declaration of war on Lithuania will provoke her allies Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Iceland, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, and Slovenia, into the war with Poland, Germany, the UK, and the US.

Forces available would be:
6th Army, 3rd Guards Tank Army, Baltic Fleet Naval Infantry, 98th Guards Airborne Division, 32nd Guards Airborne Brigade, and the 76th Guards Air Assualt Division.

Belarus
Image
Belarus is currently at war with Poland and the UK, and we have been working on bringing Belarus into the "Eastern Alliance". Diplomatic requests have been unfavorable.

Forces available would be:
6th Army, 3rd Guards Tank Army, 98th Guards Airborne Division, 32nd Guards Airborne Brigade, and the 76th Guards Air Assualt Division.

Ukraine
Image
The Ukraine is a tempting initial target as the Russian Federation would gain their old Soviet era naval assets vital for the Black Sea Fleet. The Ukraine currently has no allies, but has a much larger land force than the previous two options.

Forces available would be:
6th Army, 3rd Guards Tank Army, 98th Guards Airborne Division, 32nd Guards Airborne Brigade, and the 76th Guards Air Assualt Division along with the 49th Army of the Southern Military District and forces from the Black Sea Naval Infantry.

Some members of the General Staff suggest a massive offensive on Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, and the Ukraine all at once. Other staff think it risky as may lead unexpected delays and the loss of the Kaliningrad District. The Russian President wants immediate aid to Kaliningrad so that war can be prosecuted on Polish and German soil.

Military Operations Room
Chekhov, Moscow Oblast - Wartime Command Post for the General Staff

Operations Plans for the conflict in Korea. "Operation Tiger"

The conflict in Korea is getting out of control for the North Koreans. South Korean forces have managed to nearly encircle the capitol of North Korea, P'yongyang. Two battle plans have been created. The first plan is more of a counter attack on South Korean forces in which their northern thrust forces would be encircled, cut off and destroyed, followed by an encirclment of Seoul.

Image

The second plan is all-out offensive on South Korea. The majority of South Korean Forces in the northern thrust would be bypassed and cut off from Seoul, while Pacific Fleet Naval Infantry secure two ports on the eastern side of South Korea and then push towards Seoul cutting off South Korean reinforcements from the east and South. The 106th Guards Airborne Division would also secure the area south of Seoul once Naval Infantry close in. 5th Army would be responsible for encircling the east side of Seoul, while the 29th Army punches through the South Koreans northern thrust from the west. The 7th Guards Air Assualt Division would be responsible for cutting off troops in the north from the south while our forces get into position. 31st Guards Airborne BDE would be available to support any units in need of support, but idealy are on standby once all air defence elements are eliminated in and around Seoul.

Image

Forces available for both options would be:
5th Army, 29th Army, Pacific Fleet Naval Infantry, 7th Guards Air Assualt (Mountain) Division, 106th Guards Airborne Division, 31st Guards Airborne BDE, 3rd Air and Air Defence Forces Command, Pacific Fleet Aviation, and the Pacific Fleet Navy.

Thailand declares war on North Korea, Russia declares war on Thailand.

February 8th, 2020
Just days before "Operation Iron Wake" is to commence, Belarus and the Ukraine sign and alliance treaty. The Belarus option was decided on and forces are nearing their deployment zones. The Ukraine option is being revised should the Ukraine honor their pact with Belarus. The 20th Army and 1st Provisional Army from the Western Military District will provide a defensive zone near the Ukraine border as the 49th Army, 1st Guards Tank Army, and Black Sea Fleet Naval Infantry assume their deployment zones.

Our economy needs a major rework as our daily expense is exceeding our daily income by about a 1,000. Under current status our treasurary would last about 20 more days. It has been proposed that by going to 80 to 90% of demand production we should be able to cut that difference down to about 500 as our surpluses are significant in many areas. Still not enough. A further solution must come quickly. It is hoped that a quick victory in Korea should quiet the Eastern Front and a significant amount of mobilized troops could be sent back to reserve status. Any advice on balancing my budget would be much appreciated.

Whats your unemployment rate? If its 3.4%+ dont lower production on resources that you can produce at less then cost. Instead you should be exporting those. Exspeicaly early in the game. stuff like military goods, industrial, commercial, oil, electricity, Uranium. All these shoot up in demand. Export them to pay for your war.

I am very interested to see how this turns out. All of the games I have played threw and had others play threw, none of them where as a Russian player. So it could be interesting to see who it plays out.

Not rly a good idea. Better is to buy and sell technologies (to allies) and keep your resourses for your warmachine to work at 100%.

Btw I'm from Lithuania and can't wait to see what happens next to my country in your universe. :-)
