Suggestion: Spring of Nations

Post by Kristijonas »

WW1 and after was a period when many new nations appeared on the map of Europe.
Nearly every war in Supreme Ruler games end very unrealistically - in total annihilation, which is rare historically, especially when big countries fight each other.
Please consider a possibility for the victor (including AI, choice could depend on government type + randomness?) to demand the defeated country to liberate some or all of its unloyal territories as sovereign states. Additionally it would be even nicer if it were possible to annex only a PART of the defeated country which would also be very historical. It would also allow the game to run much longer before uncontrollable large blobs appear on the map that are too big to fail (never happened in human history).
Personally, I would consider this mechanic the GREATEST feature added to Supreme Ruler games in a long time.

An inaccurate map for illustration (Ireland, Danzig and Iceland aren't shown, probably more I don't know)

I have added events to try and recreate some of this with mixed results. In one of my tests, after Germany died, AH surrendered and a bunch of nations including Austria, Hungary and Poland were added to the map and Germany was reformed. Improving this set of events is part of the ongoing development.

I have allways begged you to teach AI to liberate and colonize instead of annexing only (even proposed that coups and lost elections and similar events should trigger this). I still insist on that. Also AI should know how to release colonies from time to time (encourage indepedance is also not working just like providing weapons to opposition and encouraging coups).

Your answer is that we might get weird results if you do that. Do you seriously mean that mega-blob monster regions are not even weirder result (question mark not working). :D
Please teach AI everything!

I completely agree with Zuikaku, events aren't enough for this. Blobs will still happen. Also events tend to be inflexible and sometimes unrealistic if circumstances change.

If it would be possible to at least create a rudimental system for countries to be released, that would be perfect. Like Zuikaku said, maybe if certain conditions are met, like election fail + low military approval, or very low cultural rating + very low domestic approval. Perhaps such things could at least spring up a civil war that would give a chance for a unloyal territories to break free (especially if foreign powers help them).

I don't think there has ever been a single country fully liberated with the current partisan/insurgence system and countries that go on annexation sprees suffer too little consequences.

I believe that we don't have the development resources with this project to find out.
